Among the myriad of announcements made this past weekend at New York Comic Con was that Ape Entertainment has acquired the rights to both Richie Rich and Strawberry Shortcake.
I'm not sure what Ape's submission policy is like, but that didn't stop myself and Matt Powell from getting busy ASAP...
STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE/RICHIE RICH: FOR LOVE OR MONEY
By Benjamin J. Morse & Matthew A. Powell
Strawberry Shortcake has ever been a woman of the people; a gal with grit and moxie not afraid to roll up her sleeves and get her hands dirty in order to get the job done. She's beloved by her friends, fulfilled by her work and proud of the reputation she has earned as Strawberryland's premiere pastry chef at the tender age of six. This has always been enough for Strawberry.
Until now.
The arrival of a mysterious stranger with golden locks and haunting eyes in the heart of Lilac Park has rocked Strawberry Land to its core. He remembers nothing of his past, save for two significant letters: "RR."
Strawberry finds herself drawn to the enigmatic newcomer and before long, inevitable romance blooms. But what will happen when she learns the truth about her new love? How will their relationship alter when he regains both his memory and his birthright?
This epic tale of honor, duty and the ties that bind the heart spills out into the seedy world of Richville, where everyone has a price and decency is a forgotten word.
Can Strawberry Shortcake and her new suitor bring light to Richville through the power of their affection? And what will become of Strawberryland when its greatest defender finds herself seduced by the glamor of a life she could only dream about? Can Blueberry Muffin fend off the Peculiar Purple Pieman of Porcupine Peak without the aid of her best friend? And for Blueberry, has that friendship become...something more?
Strawberryland or Richville? Blueberry Muffin or the gold-tressed stranger? Hard work or a life of leisure? Love or money?
YOU MUST DECIDE, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE! YOU MUST DECIDE!!
We're going to need at least 12 issues for this. And Mike Perkins.
Great pitch, Ben. We need this done. NOW!
