One Year of the CKT: Characters we lost

During our epic two year run as co-hosts of the annual Wizard Fan Awards, Rickey and I had a tradition of compiling a list of comic book characters who had died over the previous year and having whatever intern got roped into helping us run the show create a Power Point tongue-in-cheek tribute. Like everything we did at those shows, these were universally hailed as groundbreaking and awesome.

To wrap up our one year blogiversary (is there a universal spelling for that?) , I thought it would be nice and nostalgic to pay tribute to the fictional characters who fell in the line of duty this year. Fun easy way to slide into our second year, right?

I totally forgot that Ultimatum happened this year.

So here is a partial list of comic book character who died this year, celebrated via artwork I pulled off the Internet. Imagine "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" or "Hey There Delilah" playing in the background (or actually play them as you scroll!) for extra added effect.

JONATHAN KENT
THE WASP
HAWKMAN
ULTIMATE WOLVERINE
HAWKGIRL
ULTIMATE MAGNETO
TEMPEST
ULTIMATE PROFESSOR X
KID DEVIL
ULTIMATE DOCTOR DOOM
AGENT LIBERTY
ULTIMATE WASP & HANK PYM
LILANDRA
ULTIMATE CYCLOPS
KINETIX
ULTIMATE BEAST

ULTIMATE NIGHTCRAWLER
AEGIS
ULTIMATE ANGEL
SWORDSMAN

  1. Might as well just put "Ultimate et. al." SO many people died.

p.s. I had stopped reading Teen Titans and randomly picked up the issue where Kid Devil died, that was heartbreaking...

  3. I cut a good dozen Ultimate characters from this list. I also cut Rond Vidar because I couldn't find a decent picture, but we miss you, Rond.

  4. Hey There Delilah works great as background music. The Wasp didnt have a good year at all did she?

  7. Sorry, Jimmy. :-(

behameen, Rickey and I were actually sitting in a Bennigan's with our ladies one night a bout a month before the Fan Awards when "Hey There Delilah" came on the radio and we both realized it was somehow perfect for this type of thing.

And re: The Wasp, there was one year where we had clips for three different versions of Northstar (Marvel Universe, Age of Apocalypse and X-Men: The End).

  8. @Kirk Wild. Haven't read the Ultimate books in years. I was vaguely aware there was a big universe reboot going on, though. Didn't realize they handed Loeb the hatchet for so many characters.
